COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces students to sculpture, three-dimensionality, and design. Students will demonstrate their understanding of the principles of design (unity/variety, balance, emphasis, contrast, rhythm, repetition, proportion/scale, figure/ground relationship) as they relate to the visual elements of design (mass, volume, color/light, form, plane, line, texture). During this course, they will learn to use a variety of media, materials, and techniques through many three-dimensional approaches, including figurative or nonfigurative sculpture, ceramics, plaster, installation, assemblage, and fabric/fiber arts. Students will draw inspiration from historical and contemporary artists, as well as their own observation, memories and imagination to create original and meaningful artwork.
